Know where you can go for help.

Tell someone you know and trust what is happening to you.

If you have been injured or sexually assaulted go to a hospital emergency room or doctor and tell them what happened to you.

Call the police: 911

Keep any evidence of physical abuse (ripped clothes, photos of bruises and injuries, etc.)

Call the hotline. Find out about the laws, the shelters and other resources available to you before you have to use them.

Remember, if you do become a victim, it is not your fault and you are not alone.
HELP a friend

Listen to her, and believe her. Tell her that the abuse is not her fault.

Tell her that she is not alone and that free, confidential help is available.

Let her know that without intervention, abuse often excalates in frequency and severity over time.

Refer her to a domestic violence program. Help her find safe shelter, a safe home, or advocacy resources for her protection.

Don’t suggest that she return home - this may place her and her shildrne in real danger.

Hold the abuser accountable for his abusive behavior; but also support him in seeking specialized treatment for batterers.
